WEST PALM BEACH
Florida

On a cold and windy Florida morning(for Floridians) the Road Star Section visited the Manatees at the Manatee Lagoon Florida Power and Light Eco-Discovery Center. It was a good day to visit as Manatees seek warm water when the water temperature gets cool. They find warm water at the discharges of power plants and other facilities. There were many Manatees attending along with 29 members of the section. A presentation was given by a young Marine Biologist. She covered the history of the Manatee and some of the stresses the Manatee face due to urban and agricultural development along with global warming affecting their habitat. Currently there are approximately 6000+ Manatees in Florida. After visiting the Lagoon we re-joined at the Waterway Cafe in Palm Beach Gardens on the intracoastal waterway for a delightful lunch. The winning ticket received a very interesting gift but you’ll have to see it at the end of the photos.
