Arcadia
Florida
By Steven Rae: Sixteen intrepid adventurers gathered in Bradenton on a typically hot summer day for a caravan trek to Arcadia. Our goal? Shop for bargains at the many antique stores in old downtown. After a brief introduction and instructions from yours truly, we headed east on SR70. There’s nothing like seeing a bevy of Benzes traveling together on the road. Upon our arrival, we marveled at the stately buildings and pondered how many businesses had come and gone over the years. Exploring every nook and cranny became our strategy as we talked history with friendly business owners. Lunch was at Mary Margaret’s Tea and Biscuit, which featured a full menu and quaint British charm in a bright pink building. Conversation flowed as we made our selections and enjoyed our meals. Jane Adamick exclaimed she regretted not bringing a truck and trailer to haul away all of the antiques she wanted to purchase. As we drove home, we reflected on the memorable times shared with good friends. Photographs by Dave Hutchinson.
