Happy 50th birthday to the R107, launched in the Spring of 1971!
Southern Stars Section Members & guests celebrated in style, on April 10th, with a few R107’s in attendance at our April 2021 Cars & Coffee.
Did you know, when it was launched on April 14, 1971, the Mercedes-Benz R107 SL had a price tag twice as high as a Jaguar E-type?
We had many great cars shared by their generous owners! Of the cars shared, some of our VIP vehicles was a beautiful 1968 Green 250 SE Coupe. In attendance we also had a 2008 (The only year it was produced) CLK 63 AMG Black Series! We had a stunning 2012 C 63 sedan in Lunar Blue and a sweet 2014 C 63 Edition 507.
A few younger Mercedes SLs joined us to celebrate! Jeff Rotatori brought his 1998 Brilliant Silver Metallic 500SL, and Paul Eckbreth Shared his Crimson Metallic 1997 40th Anniversary 500 SL. Paul Eckbreth also shared one of his other Mercedes in his collection, his daily driver 1999 Brilliant Silver Metallic SLK 230 Kompressor! It’s all about sharing our passion, knowledge and appreciation of these well-engineered Mercedes!
Southern Stars Section brought a couple dozen donuts, and Orange Park Mercedes-Benz provided the coffee and beverages for our guests. Members and customers chatted with owners, sharing some history and tech tips! Members and guests were happy to enjoy camaraderie, on a beautiful Florida Spring morning with temps in the low 70’s! We spoke of our next Drive & Dine event, ending up in St. Simons Island, Georgia oceanfront at a beach & golf resort!
Some of the other stars of the Cars & Coffee included Cory McRea’s R107 white 450 SL. Regional Director Hank Webb and his wife Jean joined us in their 2008 Mars Red SL550, Membership Director Gary Keener shared his newly acquired Iridium Silver Metallic CLS 550, President Chase Jackson shared his Black E 550 Cabriolet, and VP Dave Wommer shared his Iridium Silver Metallic AMG SL 63. Jackie Keener shared her GLC 300, Secretary Mary Ann Baugh shared her GLK350, and Tea Marie joined us from Georgia in her 2005 SLK 350 in Iridium Silver Metallic!
Our next two Cars & Coffee events at Mercedes-Benz Orange Park will be on May 8 and June 12 from 8 AM to 10:30 AM. In July, we will host Cars & Coffee at a different location, before returning to Mercedes-Benz of Orange Park in August!
Even-numbered months, beginning in June, through and including December, on the second Saturday of every month, we’ll host Cars & Coffee at Mercedes-Benz Orange Park. The “O” shape of the Mercedes logo and "O" of Orange Park are nice round, even numbers, which might help us remember to go there on even-numbered months! “It would be "odd" not to have it at Mercedes-Benz of Orange Park, after all!”
